News from Féilte Peile Gael Linn 2017!
The first of Gael Linn’s annual football tournaments for gaeltacht primary schools and gaelscoileanna got off to a great start in the County Meath Gaeltacht of Ráth Chairn recently.  Up to 160 national school pupils from eight All-Irish Schools in Leinster – Scoil na gCeithre Máistrí, Athlone, Gaelscoil Uí Riada, Kilcock, Gaelscoil Chill Dara,The Curragh, Scoil Santain, Tallaght, Gaelscoil an Mhuilinn, Mullingar, Gaelscoil Eoghan Uí Thuairisc, Carlow and the home team, Scoil Uí Ghramhnaigh,  Ráth Chairn, took part in this year’s festival.

After two days of games and a good night’s fun at the tablequiz and céilí, it was the teams from Gaelscoil Chill Dara and Gaelscoil Cheatharlach who contested the final on Thursday. The team from Kildare emerged victorious and were delighted heading home with the Gael Linn Cup in the bus!

Five football festivals are held each year in May/June in the provinces of Ulster and Connaught, with two in Munster to cater to the huge demand from schools.

The second festival of football was held in Falcarragh, Co. Donegal with teams from the Donegal gaeltacht enjoying meeting students from gaelscoileanna  throughout Ulster. A local school, S.N. Naomh Fionnán brought the Gael Linn cup home and the Belfast gaelscoil, Gaelscoil na bhFál won the Shield competition.

At the Féile Peile in Indreabhán in Connemara, teams from Gaeltacht schools and teams from gaelscoileanna in Galway and Mayo got together for two great days of football, music and dancing! After two great semi-finals featuring Gaelscoil na Cruaiche, Westport, Gaelscoil Raifteirí, Castlebar, Scoil Éinne, An Spidéal, and Scoil Iognáid, Galway, it was left to Gaelscoil na Cruaiche and Scoil Iognáid to fight it out for top honours. After a tight game the Gael Linn Cup was brought home to Scoil Iognáid!

There were plenty of musicians and singers at the féile from Scoil Sailearna, the local school!
