The sudden death in July 2006 of Mícheál Ó Domhnaill deprived Irish music of a quiet hero. Mícheál was an enormously influential and popular guitar player, singer, producer, broadcaster and song collector and he is remembered and celebrated with the release of “Keep ‘er Lit – the songs and music of Mícheál Ó Domhnaill.” This is a limited edition retrospective CD with a lavish forty page booklet that looks certain to become a collectors item.

A founder member of some of the most enduringly influential Irish traditional bands, among them, Skara Brae, The Bothy Band, Relativity and Nightnoise,  Mícheál also formed musical partnerships with the likes of Kevin Burke and Paddy Glackin.  “Keep ‘er Lit” is a 15 track compilation that  chronicles a music career spanning  over thirty years and and it features songs and music from all of the artists listed above. Mícheal  drew on  the rich legacy of Donegal traditional music and song he was fortunate enough to inheirit from his family.  He loved too the music and song of Scotland and the western Isles.  His style of guitar accompaniment for traditional dance tunes has influenced thousands and remains as a benchmark in Irish music.

All the material on “Keep ‘er Lit” has been previously issued with the exception of one track that features The Bothy Band performing “Lord Franklin”. Among the most revered of Irish traditional groups, the appearance of a new studio track by The Bothy Band is certain to excite interest in their thousands of fans.
