Eachléim is situated in the beautiful Iorras Gaeltacht in Northwest Mayo, about 20 kilometres south of Belmullet. The Gael Linn summer college is named after the famous poet Riocard Bairéad (1729 – 1819). Much of the area has also been designated as an area of special conservation. There will be two courses organised during June and July. The courses last for 22 days and are open to students aged between 11 and 18 years. They are designed to improve the students’ ability and confidence and thus enable them to communicate in Irish with greater fluency. The courses will also introduce the students to the rich cultural heritage of the area and to the local flora and fauna. All students will have the opportunity of doing a short course in film-making. They will gain experience in script planning, filming and editing. Each student will receive a DVD copy of this work.
