Gaeltacht Courses for Adults
Courses for Adults in the Gaeltacht 2026
- Adult Courses
- sa Ghaeltacht

These courses are held in Gaoth Dobhair, one of the strongest Gaeltacht areas in the country. The course classes are held in Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge (Eircode F92 V2AW or ‘Ionad na hOllscoile’ according to Google Maps). The views are unbeatable, with hills, beaches and lakes. It is located on the north west coast of Donegal and is a strong Gaeltacht area.
The courses run for seven days starting on Sunday and finishing on Saturday. You will have time off each evening to have dinner and you will see on the schedule that there is something different going on almost every night. All evening events are optional but we highly recommend that you attend them.
For lunch, we will break between 13.00-14.00 each day and people usually bring their lunches in as we have a canteen in the Academy but just for a cup of tea and coffee. You may not have time to go to a local café during that time so we recommend that you bring your own lunch each day. There is a local supermarket called Gallagher’s Foodstore to buy food.
There are no books to buy for this course but we recommend that you bring a folder and notebook so that you can put together a learning folder during the week. You can find the week’s timetable HERE.
There are seven levels available on the courses and our courses follow TEG levels, more information about these can be found here. If you are unsure of your own level you can take the TEG Test HERE. Read through the statements below and if one of them matches your current level of Irish we recommend that you choose that one.
- Complete Beginners (A0) – “I am a complete beginner, I know one phrase but nothing else”
- Beyond Beginners (A1) – “I’m beyond beginner, I’ve studied Irish before and understand the basics, but still fairly basic level”
- Improvers (A2) – “Tuigim go leor as Gaeilge, I’m a bit rusty and I want to solidify the basics and focus on more conversation and some grammar”
- Pre-Intermediate (A2-B1) – “Tuigim an-chuid, ach ba mhaith liom snas a chur ar mo chuid Gaeilge”
- Intermediate (B1) – “Táim ag iarraidh barr feabhais a chur ar mo chuid Gaeilge idir labhairt agus scríobh”
- Pre-Advanced (B2) – “Táim nach mór líofa ach ba mhaith liom barr feabhais a chur ar mo chuid Gaeilge”
- Advanced (C1) – “Tá ardchaighdeán Gaeilge sa chomhrá agam, ba mhaith liom díriú ar chúrsaí aistriúcháin agus ar phíosaí gramadaí níos dúshlánaí”
