School Schemes
Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí!
For over ten years, Gael Linn has been at the forefront of providing practical support to schools across the country in promoting the Irish language.
The old saying is true: ‘Beatha teanga í a labhairt‘ (conversation is the lifeblood of a language) and the structure of our school schemes greatly contributes to normalising the language as a means of communication rather than an academic subject. The entire school community is encouraged to speak Irish more often.
Gaelbhratach
The Gaelbhratach scheme was established in response to the need to create natural opportunities for speaking Irish outside the classroom and beyond the Irish lesson itself. The scheme was officially launched in the 2012/13 school year at primary level, and a year later at post-primary level. Since then, the scheme has made a significant impact on all types of schools across the country.

What are people saying
Dúirt an oiread sin múinteoirí eile liom tréis bhur gcuairt nár chreid siad an mhéid acmhainní a bhí ar fáil agaibh, nár chreid siad an t-slí ina raibh sibh chomh dearfach, chomh ionraic. Tá sé soiléir go dtuigeann sibh ár n-ualach oibre. Is é an scéim is fearr i dtaobh tacaíochta de.
To feel the enthusiasm all classes had for Irish this year was unbelievable. They started at zero in terms of knowledge and exposure and finished the year with a real willingness to use the Irish they had in many settings both inside school and out in the community.
Bhí a lán éagsúlachta ar an gcúrsa seo a rinne an t-am laistigh agus lasmuigh de na ranganna taitneamhach agus suimiúil. Timpeallacht fhoghlama dhearfach freisin. Gan breithiúnas agus go leor cuimsitheachta.
Is cúis bróid ag Gael-linn an coláiste agus an fhoireann agus b'fhéidir go gcuirfeá mo mholadh in iúl dóibh idir fhoireann agus scoláirí. Mar iarscoláire agus iarmhúinteoir tuigim na deacrachtaí a bhaineann le cúrsa fiúntach, pleisiúrthach a reachtáil agus molaim sibh uilig as an sárobair atá á déanamh i Machaire Rabhartaigh.
I loved the experience, it was so well organised, welcoming, and the teaching was excellent. Donal took us through all the basics with patience, humour and great skill. Iain was a fantastic director, and the extra-curricular aspect made it a sociable week for everyone as well. I feel motivated to continue learning Irish.
It was flexible - we were able to request which areas we wanted to focus on for the week. There was lots of opportunity to socialise in Irish and learn from people in the higher classes.
Scoil Spreagtha
‘Scoil Spreagtha’ is a celebratory accreditation scheme that encourages these efforts in English‑medium schools in the North, promoting and supporting the use of Irish throughout the school environment.
