About Gael Linn
Through the work we do with schools, other organisations and the language community in general, we provide opportunities for people to learn, develop and grow.
Founded in 1953, Gael Linn is a non-profit organisation that promotes the Irish language and its heritage. We have a long history of supporting traditional musicians and promoting music. The organisation has a significant collection of music records and we play a central role in nurturing the next generation through competitions and performance opportunities.
Another important aspect of our activities is supporting Irish language teachers by providing learning materials, support forums and advice on policy.

Aim
Gael Linn's main aim is to enable people to have positive experiences with the Irish language and to facilitate their access to the many opportunities associated with the language, both socially and professionally.
- Vision
- Facilitating a positive experience of Irish for all
- Mission
- To pave the way towards a multilingual society where people have natural opportunities to use the Irish language socially and professionally as they wish.
- Values
- To be relevant, thoughtful, optimistic, always learning and positive.
Further information
Gael Linn engages people online and passionately all over Ireland (and beyond!) We have 2 main locations where this valuable work is carried out – The organisation’s Head Office on Dame Street in Dublin City Centre and Aonach Mhacha in Armagh City.
Active participation is at the heart of our practice, and for many years we have been updating and revising our programme of events and activities to ensure that we are in the right place to support our community. Gael Linn plays a central role in supporting teachers and learners of the language by providing ‘real-life’ activities that give them opportunities to develop their Irish. We support musicians by providing them with a platform to present themselves, develop their skills and strengthen their understanding of the tradition of this country.
Archive
The list of initiatives undertaken by the organisation since its foundation in 1953 is endless, many of which are aimed at young people.
Many of the photographs relate to the debating competitions, Slógadh, Siansa, Three Month Scholarships and others.
The various galleries provide an insight into the work of the organisation over the years and also show the many people who have achieved fame in various areas of life, who started out with Gael Linn schemes. It is a matter of pride for Gael Linn that many of these are still involved in Irish language matters.

Network & Governance
We work in partnership with other groups with whom we share common values to collaborate and share knowledge and resources. Networking opportunities are created for knowledge sharing, peer support and professional development. Gael Linn is governed by a voluntary board, elected for a term of 5 years, up to a maximum of 10 years. There is another secondary group from which board members are elected, called ‘Cuideachta Gael Linn’. People are also nominated to this group and they meet several times a year to discuss the activities of the organisation.
Gael Linn’s programme of work is carried out by an excellent team with enthusiasm, energy and commitment. Leading this work is the Chief Executive, who has overall responsibility for the schemes and management of the organisation.
A word of thanks to our funders
Many of Gael Linn's schemes are funded by external agencies such as Foras na Gaeilge, the Department of Education, the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Development. Without this continuous support, we simply could not carry out our important work.

Working with us
We are always looking for passionate people who share our values and are eager to contribute to the goals of Gael Linn. Together, we can make a positive and beneficial impact in promoting the richness of our language and culture.
