Condolences from Gael Linn on the death of Moya Ní Bhraonáin

‘Siúil, siúil, siúil a rún. Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin. Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom. Is go dté tú mo mhuirnín slán.’

Gael Linn is deeply saddened by the passing of Moya Ní Bhraonáin, a member of the renowned group Clannad. The Board and Staff of Gael Linn would like to express their heartfelt condolences to all her family and friends at this sad time.

Clannad shot to fame after the group’s success in the 1970s at Slógadh, a festival organised by Gael Linn. Clannad recorded two albums with Gael Linn after this with Moya having then joined the group. The songs and tunes on these early albums reflect Clannad’s unique take on the traditional style. Moya played a central role in creating that sound as a musician, a singer and composing songs. Her voice was sweet and powerful and recognisable.

Gael Linn holds in the highest regard what Moya Ní Bhraonáin achieved with the group Clannad and as a solo performer in bringing Irish traditional music to the stage here in Ireland and internationally. Moya and her musical family made huge achievements due to their exceptional talent. Moya Ní Bhraonáin and Clannad have done a great service for the people of Ireland and the people of the Gaeltacht with their contribution to the promotion of the country’s native language through their innovative approach to their art.

Every award bestowed upon Moya Ní Bhraonáin and Clannad is richly deserved.

In the autumn of 2022, Gael Linn was pleased to release the albums, Clannad 2 (1974) and Dúlamán (1976) on vinyl when the group was on a celebratory tour after 50 successful years in the music business.

Suaimhneas Síoraí ar a hanam uasal.
