Réamonn Ó Ciaráin Ceaptha ina Phríomhfheidhmeannach Nua ar Ghael Linn
Cúis áthais do Bhord Ghael Linn a fhógairt go bhfuil Réamonn Ó Ciaráin ceaptha ina Phríomhfheidhmeannach nua ar an eagraíocht. Ag fáiltiú dó roimh cheapachán Uí Chiaráin, dúirt Pádhraic Ó Ciardha, Cathaoirleach Ghael Linn: ‘Tréaslaím a cheapachán le Réamonn. Rachaidh a chuid tuisceana agus taithí go mór chun tairbhe dósan agus dúinne agus é ag tabhairt feidhm do pholasaithe forásacha Ghael Linn sna blianta le teacht. Tá bróga móra le líonadh aige agus is cinnte go bhfuil an cumas agus an tiomantas aige chuige.’

Thosaigh Réamonn ag obair le Gael Linn i 1993 agus bhí sé ina bhainisteoir ann ón bhliain 2003 nó gur ceapadh é ina Stiúrthóir Oideachais in 2020. Rugadh agus tógadh Réamonn i gCrois Mhic Lionnáin, Co. Ard Mhacha. I ndiaidh Bhunscoil Naomh Pádraig, d’fhreastail sé ar Scoil na Mainistreach ar an Iúr. Bhain sé amach bunchéim san Oideachas agus sa Léann Ceilteach ó Choláiste Ollscoile Naomh Muire, Béal Feirste, chomh maith le céim mháistreachta sa Léann Éireannach ó Ollscoil na Banríona, Béal Feirste, agus céim eile sa Bhainisteoireacht Chultúrtha ó Ollscoil Uladh, Baile Shiurdáin.

Tá trí leabhar foilsithe ag Réamonn le Gael Linn ar Chúchulainn mar aon le hailt in irisí éagsúla. Comh-bhunaitheoir agus Cathaoirleach é ar Aonach Mhacha, an chultúrlann úr i gCathair Ard Mhacha. Is iomaí ról oifige atá imeartha aige le CLG ag leibhéal contae agus ar Choiste Náisiúnta na Gaeilge. Tá ceangal fada ag Réamonn leis an Iontaobhas Ultach agus toghadh é ina chathaoirleach air in 2019. Ball de Bhord Gobhnóirí Choláiste Chaitríona, Ard Mhacha é ó 2006 agus iar-chathaoirleach ar An tUltach, iris Chomhaltas Uladh. Tá Réamonn pósta ar Dolores agus tá beirt clainne orthu, Alana agus Caoilte.

Agus é ag trácht ar an dúshlán nua, dúirt Réamonn:‘Tá mé ag dúil go mór le mo ról nua le heagraíocht a d’imir tionchar nach beag ar chomhfhiosacht na tíre i leith na Gaeilge agus a hoidhreachta le beagnach seachtó bliain anuas. Tá foireann dhíograiseach agus chumasach ag obair le Gael Linn agus tá mé ag súil comhoibriú leo san am atá amach romhainn le spriocanna Gael Linn a bhaint amach,’

Tosóidh Réamonn ina ról mar Phríomhfheidhmeannach Ghael Linn ar 1 Meitheamh 2022. Tagann sé i gcomharbacht ar Antoine Ó Coileáin atá ag dul ar scor i ndiaidh dó scór bliain a chaitheamh ina Phríomhfheidhmeannach, é ar dhuine de na ceannairí is faide seirbhís in eagras Gaeilge lenár linn.

Gael Linn Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Réamonn Ó Ciaráin has been appointed to the role of CEO. Welcoming Ó Ciaráin’s appointment, Pádhraic Ó Ciardha, Gael Linn’s Chairman, said: ‘I congratulate Réamonn. His understanding and experience will serve both him and the organisation well in implementing Gael Linn’s progressive policies in the coming years. He will have big shoes to fill but we are confident that Réamonn possesses the ability and dedication to do so.’

Réamonn began working with Gael Linn in 1993, was promoted to manager in 2003 and to Director of Education in 2020. He was born and raised in Crossmaglen, Co. Armagh where he attended St. Patrick’s Primary School and later the Abbey Grammar School, Newry. He holds a degree in Education and Celtic Studies from Saint Mary’s University College, Belfast, an MA in Irish Studies from QUB and an MA in Cultural Management at Ulster University, Jordanstown.

Réamonn has authored three books on Cúchulainn which were published by Gael Linn, as well articles in a variety of publications. He is co-founder and Chairman of Aonach Mhacha, the new Cultúrlann in Armagh City. He has held many officer roles within the GAA at county level, as well its National Committee for the Irish Language. Réamonn has a long connection with ULTACH Trust and became its Chairman in 2019. He has been a member of the Board of Governors of St. Catherine’s College, Armagh since 2006, as well as being a former Chairman of An tUltach, the Comhaltas Uladh magazine. Réamonn is married to Dolores and they have two children, Alana and Caoilte.

Commenting on his new challenge, Réamonn said: ‘I very much look forward to taking up this new role in an organisation which has so greatly influenced awareness in relation to the Irish language and its heritage for almost 70 years. Gael Linn has a committed and capable team and I welcome the prospect of working closely with them in the future to achieve Gael Linn’s objectives.’

Réamonn takes up his post as CEO of Gael Linn on 1st June succeeding Antoine Ó Coileáin who is retiring after twenty years in that role, one of the longest-serving heads of an Irish language body in recent times.
